Using Routes Offline & Online

Updated over 2 months ago

Overview

SteadyState lets you create, save, and follow routes for running, hiking, cycling, and more. Download routes to your device for offline access when you're out of cell coverage, and sync routes to your Garmin device for on-wrist navigation.

Creating Routes

Route Builder

  1. Go to Routes tab and tap Create Route

  2. Choose your sport type (Run, Hike, Ride, Walk, etc.)

  3. Use the map to draw your route:

    • Snap to Trail - Automatically follows existing trails and paths

    • Manual - Draw free-form lines anywhere

  4. Add waypoints to mark important spots (water stations, viewpoints, checkpoints, etc.)

  5. Enter a name and description

  6. Tap Save

Route Details

Each route includes:

  • Total distance

  • Elevation gain and loss

  • Interactive elevation profile

  • Waypoints with custom labels

Downloading Routes for Offline Use

When you're heading somewhere without cell service, download your routes ahead of time.

How to Download

  1. Open the route you want to save

  2. Tap Save for Offline

  3. Wait for the download to complete

What Gets Downloaded

  • Route path and waypoints

  • Map tiles for the surrounding area (1km buffer on each side)

  • Elevation data

Viewing Routes Offline

When you don't have internet, use the Offline Maps screen to access your downloaded routes.

How It Works

  1. Go to Routes β†’ Offline Maps

  2. Select the area you downloaded

  3. Browse all routes saved in that area

  4. Tap any route to view full details, elevation profile, and map

Everything works without internet - the app uses your downloaded data automatically.

Managing Offline Maps

  • View all downloaded areas

  • See storage used by each area

  • Delete areas you no longer need

Note: Offline maps are only available on the iOS and Android apps, not the web version.

Syncing Routes to Garmin

Send routes to your Garmin device for turn-by-turn navigation during your activity.

How to Sync

  1. Make sure you have an active Garmin connection in Settings

  2. Open the route you want to sync

  3. Tap Sync to Garmin

  4. Select your sub-sport type (Trail Running, Road Cycling, etc.)

  5. The route will appear on your Garmin device

  • View when a route was last synced

  • Re-sync if you made changes

  • Remove routes from your Garmin device

Note: Syncing requires an internet connection.

  4. Duplicate to create your own editable copy

Tips

  2. Check storage - Monitor how much space offline maps are using

  3. Update synced routes - Re-sync to Garmin after making edits

  4. Use snap-to-trail - Creates more accurate routes that follow real paths
